Cosmic Kitties!!

I have a friend who is an astrologer, and a devoted cat mom to four very different, very opinionated creatures.

This piece began as a pattern titled Covered In Cats by Evelyn and Peter of E&P Crochet. But the moment I chose the yarn, I knew it was never going to stay that simple.

This one had a different orbit entirely.

“Cosmic Cats” felt inevitable.

The colors came from Red Heart Bitty Stripes in Crayon Stripes, shifting, unpredictable, almost impossible to pin down. The kind of colorway that doesn’t sit still, but drifts, collides, and reforms. Exactly what I needed to echo a life lived with one eye on the stars.

The cats themselves were worked in Red Heart Super Saver Metallic Black, giving them just enough shimmer to feel like they don’t quite belong to the same plane as everything else. As the blanket moves, they catch the light, subtle, but enough to suggest they might be watching back.

And let’s be honest, cats don’t just exist in a space. They own it.

The border was finished in two shades of purple, chosen not just for contrast, but because they belong to her. The structure matters here. Rows of jasmine stitch and single crochet along the top edge create a grounded rhythm, while the bottom edge shifts into v-stitches and bobble stitches.

That structure is deliberate.

It reins in the color chaos, just enough to keep it from drifting too far.

It found its way into a home where it was never going to belong to just one person...

but to four watchful cats, and the one who orbits them.
